Relationship between History of Low Birth Weight and Growth of Infants Aged 0-12 Months in the Work Area of the Pakisaji Health Center Malang Regency.

Abstract

Every baby born with a Low birth Weight (LBW) is still a health problem in Indonesia.One of the factors that affect the growth of the baby is LBW. LBW will affect the growth of a baby at a later stage after birth. The aim of the study was to determine whether there was a relationship between the history of low birth weight infants and the growth of infants aged 0-12 months in the Pakisaji Community Health Center, Malang Regency. The research method uses observational analytic research with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used total sampling with a total of 48 respondents aged 0-12 months in the Pakisaji Health Center Working Area. The research instruments used were baby's body scales, measuring baby's height and structured interview guidelines. Analysis of bivariate test data using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that the p-value = 0.105 (p > 0.05), which means that there is no relationship between the history of low birth weight babies and the growth of babies aged 0-12 months in the working area of the Pakisaji Health Center, Malang Regency. Parents of babies with LBW are expected to improve monitoring of their baby's growth by routinely bringing them to the posyandu. Health workers are also expected to further improve their services with education and early detection and to pay special attention so that the impact of LBW can immediately get proper treatment.
